Performance of the warm failover feature is measured in the elapsed time between failure of the primary NPM module and the backup NPM module assuming control. Table C-1 lists the results of warm failover testing between a redundant process control unit interface node and a nonredundant process control unit interface node. The primary NPM module of the redundant interface node was stopped to simulate failure. The nonredundant interface node imports exception reports from and exports exception reports to the redundant interface node. The time values listed in Table C-1 indicate the time required for the backup NPM module to recognize a primary NPM module failure, for the importing and exporting of various numbersof exception reports, and for the backup NPM module to assume control. All test configurations are balanced in that both nodes import and export the same numbers and types of exception reports. Local time values represent the time required by the backup NPM module in a redundant interface node to recognize a primary NPM module failure, receive the indicated number of exception reports from and send the indicated number of exception reports to the nonredundant interface node, and to assume control. Remote time values represent the time required by the nonredundant NPM module to transmit all exception reports to and receive all exception reports from the redundant NPM module following a primary NPM module failure. The remote time values correspond roughly to the time required by the redundant interface node to export all of the configured exception reports following a warm failover.
